What Is Hyaluronidase?
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid (HA). When injected into an area with HA filler, it rapidly dissolves the product — typically within 24-48 hours. It's the "undo button" for filler complications.
⏱️ Speed
Results visible within 24-48 hours. Most filler dissolved within the first session.
✅ Safety
FDA-approved and widely used. Allergic reactions are rare but possible — a skin test is recommended.
💉 Sessions
1-3 sessions depending on filler volume and product type. Some products require more enzyme.
When To Consider Dissolution
- Filler migration — product has moved from the intended area
- Asymmetry — uneven results that can't be corrected with more filler
- Overcorrection — too much volume was injected
- Vascular compromise — emergency: filler compressing blood vessels (immediate treatment required)
- Personal preference — you simply want to return to your natural appearance
The Procedure
- Consultation: Your provider assesses the area and determines how much hyaluronidase is needed.
- Allergy test: A small amount is injected into the forearm. Wait 15-30 minutes.
- Injection: Hyaluronidase is injected directly into the filler. You may feel a slight stinging sensation.
- Massage: The area is gently massaged to distribute the enzyme evenly.
- Wait: Results develop over 24-48 hours. A follow-up appointment is scheduled.
What To Expect After
Swelling is normal for 1-3 days. The dissolved area may initially look "over-corrected" (too flat). This normalizes within a week. You can re-inject new filler after 2-4 weeks once the hyaluronidase has fully cleared.
